Police are examining the possibility of involvement of a third party in the murder of a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son, according to statements made by the police spokesperson.

The case of the murder of a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son in Aigion has not been closed, according to statements made by police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglídou during a television interview.
Ms Dimoglídou stated that police officers are awaiting results from forensic laboratories to strengthen charges against the 65-year-old Italian man being held. She stressed that the possibility of the presence of another person inside the house had been ruled out from the outset; however, forensic findings indicate that this was not a mutual killing of the victims.
According to her, officers who arrived at the scene detected a strong smell of alcohol. This was the reason an examination of the suspect was requested, on the assumption that he had drunk alcohol to alter evidence. The house smelled of spirits, the spokesperson added.
The laboratories, however, found no gunpowder residue on the hands of the accused. Ms Dimoglídou explained that when sufficient time passes between the act and the examination, it is natural for no traces to remain. The perpetrator had time at his disposal to alter the circumstances at the scene.
The investigation has discovered indications pointing towards this version of events. The woman's mobile phone remains missing, whilst a part of it that did not function and was deliberately hidden inside the house was found.
Ms Dimoglídou noted that the procedure continues, with a new cycle of investigations expected from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. Material from security cameras and the suspect's vehicle are still being examined.
