Two men, aged 29 and 32, were arrested on the evening of Sunday, 4 October by police in Trikala in connection with a fraud and theft case against an elderly woman, according to Newsit.gr.

On the afternoon of the same day, in an area of the Pyli Municipality, an unknown perpetrator telephoned the elderly woman and presented himself as an accountant. He claimed that her banknotes had lost their value and that they needed to be replaced immediately.

Under this pretence, the woman was persuaded to place €25,000 in bags and leave them outside her residence. A short time later, the perpetrators arrived at the location in a private vehicle and collected the money.

Police officers located the bags containing the money following directions from those arrested, seized them, and subsequently returned them to the elderly woman. During a search of the two men's possessions, a total of €570 and three mobile phones were found and seized, and the vehicle used was also seized.

In parallel, a case file was opened against unknown associates for participation in a criminal organisation and fraud. The two arrested individuals are expected to be brought before the Misdemeanour Prosecutor of Trikala. The preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Trikala Prosecution and Investigation Directorate.
