Today, Friday 12 June, a 65-year-old Italian man is expected to appear before the investigating magistrate, facing charges in connection with the murder of two people in Longos, Aigialeia. The victims are his partner, aged 54, and her son, aged 26. The accused maintains his denial, claiming that the two victims killed each other.
According to information published by Athens Voice, the Italian man claims he was asleep during the incident and noticed nothing, despite the house being small.
Forensic examination revealed that the young man was shot at close range in the head with an air rifle and subsequently suffered multiple stab wounds. His mother sustained over twenty knife wounds. Neither of the two victims had defensive wounds.
The investigation points to the conclusion that the 65-year-old first attacked the 26-year-old with a knife and a firearm, before then turning on the 54-year-old. A possible motive being examined is his reaction to the young man's plan to move his mother to Germany for treatment.
The young man had returned from Germany intending to take his mother with him. The Italian man is reported to have been upset by the fact that his partner had given money to her son from the sale of a plot of land, claiming he had also invested in the house.
Evidence gathered by the authorities strengthens suspicions against him. The knife found next to the woman's body bears no fingerprints, a fact that leads police to believe it was cleaned. There are indications of washing of clothing with traces of blood. No signs of forced entry to the property have been found, and footage from cameras does not reveal any suspicious activity in the area, a fact which suggests that the perpetrator was already inside the house.
The accused man's defence lawyers are expected to request an adjournment to study the case file and prepare his defence.
