A violent incident unfolded on the evening of Saturday, 13 June at a hotel in Kamisiana, Chania, resulting in the arrest of a 31-year-old British man.
Five British tourists were staying in the room: a 39-year-old woman, her partner aged 31, his mother aged 54, and two minor children. The older child, nine years old, is from the 39-year-old's previous marriage, whilst the second child, three years old, is shared with the 31-year-old.
According to information, for reasons unknown so far, a heated argument broke out between the 39-year-old and her 54-year-old mother-in-law. The situation escalated, resulting in the woman sustaining an injury to her head. The 31-year-old partner became involved in the altercation, hitting his own partner.
The shouting and commotion caused concern to other guests and hotel staff, who notified the police authorities. Police officers attended the scene and took all three adults to the domestic violence department.
There, the 31-year-old was arrested under the procedure of flagrante delicto, despite the 39-year-old stating that she did not wish for him to be prosecuted. The same applies to his mother.
