Man arrested in Vicenza after stabbing partner, skull fracture: 35-year-old held

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after attacking his partner with a knife during the night of 4 November in Vicenza. The victim, with permanent injuries and a fractured temporal bone, is hospitalised in critical condition.

Assault during night in Vicenza

According to ansa.it, a violent argument preceded the attack which occurred during the night of 4 November on the outskirts of Vicenza. A 35-year-old man repeatedly stabbed his partner with a knife, seriously wounding her before fleeing.

The victim sustained permanent injuries to her face and a fractured temporal bone. Despite her injuries, she managed to reach the emergency room on her own where she alerted officers. Her son was present in the house at the time of the attack. The woman's condition subsequently worsened; she is currently hospitalised in critical condition.

Search and arrest

The mobile squad of Vicenza launched the investigation the same day. Investigators used footage from cameras in the area and databases to reconstruct the man's flight towards the Treviso region. The attacker was identified on 5 November in Castelfranco Veneto, in the province of Treviso, where he had found shelter with an acquaintance.

Given the deterioration in the woman's condition and the risk of flight, the prosecutor issued an arrest warrant. On 7 November the warrant was validated and the 35-year-old was remanded in custody in prison on the charge of attempted murder.
