Bust of pro-Russian General Radu Theodoru scheduled for unveiling at Comana Monastery on 23 August
The Vlad Țepeș Command, whose officers are being prosecuted for treason, has announced the unveiling of a bust of Radu Theodoru at Comana Monastery. An association from Arad has alerted the authorities to stop the event.
Bust of General Theodoru at Comana Monastery, announced by group indicted for treason
On 23 August, at 12:30, at Comana Monastery in Giurgiu County, the unveiling of a bust of retired Major General Radu Theodoru, who died in December 2025, is scheduled. The event is being organised by the Vlad Țepeș Command, according to G4Media, a pro-Russian paramilitary group whose members are facing trial for treason.
Theodoru denied the Holocaust and appeared as a suspect in the same criminal case in which other members of the Command are indicted. The announcement of the event appeared on Facebook and garnered hundreds of shares, along with comments describing Theodoru as "a true hero" who "fought for his country with honour, valour and glory".
Who is organising and what the Command sought to achieve
The main organiser of the event is Adrian Robertin Dinu, the current leader of the Vlad Țepeș Command and himself indicted in the criminal case. The announcement published on Facebook explicitly mentions Dinu as the founder of the group, stating that "the bust of the general and the initiation of the entire event belong to the Vlad Țepeș Command".
According to the indictment examined by G4Media, members of the Command intended to seize power through protests and radical actions. Stated objectives included replacing the current political system, declaring Romania's neutrality — namely withdrawal from NATO and the European Union — nationalising natural resources and the banking system, establishing a government composed exclusively of members of the organisation, and changing the country's name from Romania to Getia.
Detention and committal for trial
In 2025, Adrian Robertin Dinu was detained by DIICOT in a case involving treason and establishment of an organised criminal group. The investigation was launched following a notification by the Directorate of Counter-Intelligence and Military Security within the General Directorate of Defence Intelligence.
Information obtained by Romanian military intelligence raised suspicion that, beginning in 2023, the group was initially coordinated by Colonel Viktor Makovski, military attaché at the Russian embassy in Bucharest, then by his successor, Colonel Alexandr Ciuprina, and by Colonel Evgheny Ignatiev, deputy to the Russian military attaché, according to DIICOT prosecutors. Dinu and other defendants were committed for trial in December 2025; the case is currently in the preliminary chamber phase before the High Court of Cassation and Justice.
Propaganda continued after commencement of trial
Even after being committed for trial, Dinu continues to propagate pro-Russian narratives and repeatedly announce a future shift in Romania's orientation, making threats against those who would not comply, according to G4Media.
In an interview from July 2026, Dinu expounded several of his theses, invoking the premeditation of the 2020 pandemic, control of the European Union by Israel and Russian invincibility: "This post-statal period, that is the adhesion to sovereignty, sovereignty ceded to the Jewish Union, since it is not the European Union (…) and when jihad is unleashed, jihad cannot be stopped, and Russia has never been defeated. Russians will never be defeated."
Notifications to authorities to block the event
Thursday morning, the Association for the Prevention and Combating of Antisemitism and Legionarism from Arad, through its lawyer and chairman Bogdan Ionescu, notified several institutions regarding the event planned at Comana Monastery.
Notifications were sent to the Town Hall and Local Council of Comana commune, Giurgiu Prefecture, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of National Defence, the Giurgiu County Police Inspectorate, Comana Monastery, the Bishopric of Giurgiu and the Romanian Patriarchate. Bogdan Ionescu requested that each institution immediately provide any documents, approvals, permits or authorisations by which it had endorsed the organisation of the ceremony, and also requested legal measures to stop or cancel the event.
