A 21-year-old man from Lunca, Mureș County, has been placed under preventive arrest for 30 days after extorting a 13-year-old girl by threatening her with a beating if she did not engage in intimate relations with him. Judicial sources confirmed for News.ro that the man and the minor did not know each other and had never met before making contact.
According to the same sources, the man approached the teenager on social networks, after which communication continued by telephone. At one point, he resorted to extortion, transmitting threats of violence through online platforms.
Officials from Mureș County Police clarified on Thursday that the events took place at the end of July 2026. "A 21-year-old man from Lunca allegedly attempted to compel a 13-year-old minor, through threats of violence transmitted via social networks, to engage in acts of a sexual nature with him," the institution stated in its communiqué.
The teenager refused to comply with his demands. Subsequently, in an attempt to end the interaction, the victim handed the man a gold chain that she was wearing. The extortion ceased after police officers from Reghin became aware of the situation and opened an investigation into the suspect's alleged crimes.
On Tuesday, 18 August, the man was detained for 24 hours. A day later, the court ordered his preventive arrest for 30 days.
