A 55-year-old man has been taken into custody, accused of beating and terrorising minors entrusted to his care at the Békés county institution over a period of years.

Officers from the Counter-Terrorism Centre apprehended the fifty-five-year-old man who previously worked as a carer at a children's home in Csanádpalota. The Gyula District Court remanded the suspect in custody for thirty days, as investigators determined that if he remained at liberty, he might attempt to influence witnesses – as reported by 24.hu.
According to the charges, the man systematically mistreated children in his care between 2018 and 2023, a period of five years. The Békés County Chief Prosecutor's office contends that he physically assaulted eight minors, whilst employed by the institution to provide their education and care. All the victims were under eighteen years of age.
The documents reveal that he employed various forms of abuse. On one occasion he kicked a young boy in the throat; on others he struck him with his head or hit him in the chest. At one point, at school and in the presence of a member of management, he repeatedly slammed a child's head against the blackboard.
According to the investigation, the suspect locked one of his charges in the carer's office on one occasion to prevent them from running away. He also told the children that it was pointless to make complaints because nobody would believe what they said.
The prosecutor's office contends that the man's behaviour seriously damaged the psychological and moral development of the minors. The court decided to impose pre-trial detention because there are well-founded grounds to fear that the suspect, if at liberty, would attempt to convince witnesses to alter the testimony against him.
