According to the court, there is no need to prohibit the former director of the children's home in Bicske from approaching one of the victims, according to reporting by 24.hu.
The man, who sexually harassed underage boys at the institution for years, was released in spring. One of his victims, a thirty-one-year-old young man, requested a protective measure before the release. The decision arrived recently: the responsible authority rejected the request. Their reasoning was that the former director was convicted not of violent crime but of continuing abuse, and therefore they did not consider a restraining order justified.
The victim, referred to as Levente in the television report, was subjected to the man's sexual abuse for years. Today he is a patient being treated for a brain tumour; he was recently operated on and requires psychiatric care. Previously he lived as a homeless person in a tent; later, funds collected through a social media campaign made it possible to provide him with accommodation.
The television programme read out his letter, in which he wrote that he felt sadness and anger, wondering whether dozens of ruined lives were worth so little. He also reminded viewers that a wooden cross stood in front of the former director's room, as a memorial to a child who had committed suicide.
Two former colleagues who had uncovered the case also made statements. Árpád Bárnai, who worked as a carer at the home, and Erika Schmidt, an experiential educator, both believe that the released man is certainly in better condition than those he corrupted. Several former residents today struggle with psychological injuries and financial difficulties. Both believe that in similar cases, restraining orders should be imposed automatically.
The report also mentioned that the former director's former deputy tried to cover up what had happened within the institution. When released, the man did not answer any journalists' questions.
